Liquor Prices Set to Rise by April 1

The federal tax hike on alcohol will see a 4.7% increase on April 1st. This is
the biggest increase in 40 years and, for already cash-strapped households, this move could really impact spring and summer event plans.

In a press release on Oct. 30 2023, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation called on the federal government to forgo the April 2024 liquor tax hike. Their reasoning was that taxes already account for half of beer prices, 65% of the price of wine and a massive three quarters of the price of spirits.

With these prices set to increase, stocking up your cellar south of the border makes even more sense. The Booze Bus offers free rides from three convenient locations in and around the GTA. Canadian citizens are permitted a maximum of 45 litres of alcohol each. You place your order before you leave, pop over the border and back for a round trip of about three hours. After duties and taxes, you will be saving up to 40% on LCBO prices.
